There’s really nothing better than a pair of great fitting jeans and t-shirt to nail that casual, I-don’t-care-too-much, look. Especially when you aren’t feeling so hot. Maybe you had too many margaritas last night, or are getting crushed by allergies, or have a 2 and a half year old who likes to hang out at 3am. Or maybe you’ve got all three, in that case we should talk. So, to look like you’ve got it together stick with the following equation and you should be good to go: perfect tee-shirt + well-fitting jeans + accessories = foolin’ everyone.
The Perfect Plus-Size T-shirt
For my perfect plus-size t-shirt I stitched up the Cashmerette Concord t-shirt in a rayon jersey blend. The fabric is super soft, and the pattern is PERFECT. I know I sound like a total Cashmerette fan-girl (OK, I am) but these patterns are just so well-drafted for curvy figures. I opted for the scoop neckline which hits at just the right spot without too much cleavage. I didn’t have to add any length to this pattern. I cut between a size 16 and 18 for the bust and waist then graded out to a size 20 at the hip.
I plan to make many more of the Cashmerette Concord T-Shirts throughout the summer. Best part, the pattern has a number of different customizations and options, so one pattern goes a long way!
This pattern is definitely going to be in heavy rotation!
Ready-to-wear Plus-size T-shirts
For those who are looking to buy a plus-size ready-to-wear tee I suggest looking for t-shirts that contain rayon or modal in addition to cotton and even a touch of lycra or spandex. This combination of fabrics results in a super soft material with a lovely drape, perfect for complimenting those curves. I noticed that even Target is using rayon in their tees now!
- Universal Standard Tee Rex in Black $50.00
- Target Plus Size Perfect Tee $8.00
- Torrid Layering Crew Tee $18.60
As you can see, you can spend a whole lot or a whole little on a t-shirt. But I have to admit, after making one and seeing that it actually takes a fair amount of time, I’m not all that flummoxed by the $50 Universal Standard price tag.
Jeans and a t-shirt are the perfect canvas to play with accessories. Add a hat, sunnies and a swipe of bold lipstick you’ll start feeling like you have it together in no time!
I’m wearing: Tahari Rose Gold Aviators; Faux White Leather Bag, similar here* and here*; Tom’s Majorca Peep-toe bootie*; BaubleBar Pave Resin Links* and a Multicolor Woven Fedora, similar here. As for my lipstick, it’s Stila All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso (and yes, you can totally rock a bold lip during the day! It’s all about how you style it!)
Have an awesome week!
Happy sewing and styling,
