In mid-December I headed to Tesoro, a West Chester, PA luxury leather handbag brand, to meet and interview cofounders Brittany Reed and Emily Pisano (to jump straight to the interview head to my YouTube Channel here). Nearly all of the pieces in the shop are made right there by Reed while Pisano manages business operations. (*Emily Pisano recently announced that she’ll be leaving Tesoro at the end of the month).
What I love about this brand is their dedication to incredibly luxurious leather handbags, with a commitment to the made in America movement. I also love that Emily and Britt have used their positions as business owners as a platform to support and promote other female entrepreneurs as well as advocating for change socially and politically. These are my type of people.
This was my first opportunity to actually get my hands on the entire Tesoro collection (I’d been long-term stalking them on Instagram). Naturally, the entire shop smells of fresh leather as pieces are produced in viewing distance from the display cases. Tesoro bags are impeccably made, with incredible attention to detail. Stitch lines are perfect and they are even lined in leather for durability and strength. For the quality and workmanship the bags are well-priced and in line with competitors. I found the Tesoro aesthetic to be modern and bold with just the right amount of luxury for everyday, which is so refreshing to see in the ethical, slow-fashion space.
Some of my favorite pieces from their collection are the hair-on-hide Brittany Reversible Clutch (which includes a chain and can be worn as a cross-body). This bag has plenty of room for a wallet, keys, phone and lipstick and can be worn on either side (2 looks in one!) Perfect for a night out.
I’ve also got my eye on the Nora Bag in Black Bison & Stone Oiled Leather. I love how you can get two very different looks with one bag with the use of the “wings”. Tuck them in for a sleek, efficient look. Push them out for an edgier vibe that provides more space for your stuff. So gorgeous!
Tesoro also takes on custom work and can design a bag just for you. I highly recommend adding one of these high quality bags to your rotation- a leather all-purpose bag is the perfect investment piece as it can be used almost daily and year round.
I loved chatting with Emily and Britt about all things Tesoro including sustainability, ethical production, the love of leather, the Made-in-America movement, feminism and entrepreneurship. This is an audio interview which I’ve put on my youtube channel (forgive the crappy edits, first time editing!). So grab a cup of your favorite beverage, and settle in.
