When you suddenly land a babysitter (thanks Mi-mom!) and the weather is just PERFECT you’ve got to whip yourself up a sexy date night number and hit the town. Thanks to the Cashmerette Dartmouth top (featured here) I was able to make myself a sexy little wiggle dress in a few hours: pattern hack, cutting and stitching included.
To make this dress, after tracing off the pattern, I cut at the lengthen/ shorten line and added a pencil skirt shape, creating one long pattern piece. I did this on all three pattern pieces (the cross over left, cross over right and back pattern piece). I narrowed the skirt a good bit past the knee to get a real feminine skirt shape. After assembling the entire pattern I altered the side seams to fit taking it in bit by bit to get a body-hugging silhouette.
Fabric used was a yellow hibiscus floral scuba from my stash that I had been holding on to for this very project. I did the entire project on my trusty serger then did the final hem with a heavyweight ball point needle using a zig-zag stitch.
I absolutely love how quickly this dress came together and that it’s just the right amount of sex-appeal without being too over the top.
Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!
Happy sewing and styling,
